Try to keep your hand made rugs clean. Still the best way for daily cleaning is to use a normal soft hand broom, with the pile direction not against the pile. It may take a bit longer but will preserve your rugs life time. Using a vacuum cleaner once a week or preferably every two weeks should be ok.
Your hand made rugs should be washed by an expert every 2 to 3 years depending on where you use them and how dirty they are. Please don’t leave them unwashed for longer than 4 to 5 years even if they don’t look dirty.
Remember that water and humidity can damage your hand made rugs, so please keep water and indoor plants away from your rugs.
If for any reason your carpet got wet, the first step is to remove or sponge the excess water. This can be done with a spoon and then with a white towel or a non dyed cloth. Then you can dry the wet area with a hair dryer or put under the sun. Remember to keep the pile direction and not break it.
Please bear in mind that these are only some guideline and the services on oriental rugs should be done by a professional.
